Dr. Ted Murray receives Life Membership

Dr. Ted Murray was recently inducted by the Iowa Dental Association (IDA) into Life Membership. He was presented a plaque at the 2017 IDA 155th Annual Session by current president and colleague, Dr. Tom Peek, during the House of Delegates on Saturday morning.

This year Dr. Ted Murray reaches forty years of practicing dentistry. Dr. Ted Murray graduated from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 1977 and then completed a one year General Practice Residency at the Veteran’s Hospital in Iowa City. He is previous past president of the Dubuque County Dental Association, the Dubuque District Dental Association, and the Iowa Academy of General Dentistry. He has been a lifelong student and committed to quality continuing dental education. He has also served as a mentor through the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.  He continues to mentor his two daughters, Dr. Kristen Berning and Dr. Alexia Oetken, on a daily basis in their Dubuque family dental office.

Seen in the photo above, the additional badges and ribbons on Dr. Murray’s name tag recognize his extra service contributions to the Iowa Dental Foundation: Political Action Committee (PAC) contributor, Iowa Mission of Mercy (IMOM) volunteer, and Donated Dental Services (DDS) volunteer.

Information about each of the ways Dr. Murray has volunteered through the Iowa Dental Foundation includes the following:

  1. The Iowa Dental Political Action Committee (IDPAC) is a grassroots group of individual dentists who make voluntary donations to support political issues affecting dentistry.  The donations from IDPAC are used to educate and support our elected and nominated state policy makers. The IDPAC is independent, nonprofit, and not associated with any specific political party.  Dr. Ted Murray has been a regular supporter of IDPAC over the years.
  2. The Iowa Mission of Mercy is an annual event that provides two days of free dental care to adults and children in need.  The 2016 IMOM was held in Dubuque at the Five Flags Center.  Dr. Ted Murray and the Exceptional Dentistry team volunteered several hours at the IMOM event.  Dr. Ted Murray worked in the Triage Clinic.  The Triage Clinic was the patient’s first dental exam of the day and used to diagnose and identify treatment needs and prioritize care for the patient. The patient then was sent to a specific clinic next within IMOM such as radiology, oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, hygiene, or operative dentistry.
  3. The Donated Dental Services (DDS) program is partnered with the Iowa Dental Foundation to provide free dental care on a selective basis to individuals in need through private dental offices.  Dentists volunteer to provide free or very low cost care.  Patients can fill out an application online to see if they are eligible for care through the DDS program.  Dr. Ted Murray has provided substantial donations of dental treatment through this program in his Dubuque Dental office.

Thanks, Dr. Murray, for your lifelong commitment and service towards dentistry!
