Message to our patients during COVID-19

Notice of Temporary Closure due to COVID-19

Dear Exceptional Dentistry patients and families,

We hope this message finds you and your family healthy.

We care very much about you. We miss seeing you and catching up with you. Our hygienists miss making every smile healthier and sparkling clean. Our dentists and assistants miss repairing, enhancing, whitening, and restoring your smile. We miss delivering care and solving dental concerns. We miss being together as your dental team.

Our top priority is the health and well-being of our patients, families, team, and the Tri-State community. In this unprecedented time, we are committed to keeping everyone safe through social distancing and other recommended practices to slow the spread of COVID-19.

In light of the evolving pandemic and out of consideration for the safety of you, your family, and our team, we are following the recommendation from our Iowa Governor, as well as from the the Center for Disease Control (CDC), American Dental Association (ADA), and Iowa Dental Board.  Our office is closed for the next several weeks or longer, for non-emergency and non-urgent issues. If you have an appointment scheduled during this time, our office has sent you communication regarding this temporary closure. When we are able to reschedule appointments, we will.

Per the Iowa Governor’s most recent announcement, the soonest we will re-open for regular dental care is Monday, May 18, 2020.

We are available for emergency and urgent treatment during this time.

Dr. Kristen Berning will be on call in the event of a dental emergency. Should you require emergency dental care, please call our office as you normally would at 563-556-2711 and listen to the directions on the voicemail for our emergency number. Dr. Kristen Berning is also available for phone/FaceTime consults with parents regarding their babies’ tongue ties and lip ties that may be severely affecting feeding.

What are examples of urgent or emergency dental conditions?

  • dental trauma (a newly broken or displaced tooth)
  • severe tooth or gum pain
  • infection
  • swelling
  • an abscessed tooth
  • a tooth fracture that is causing pain
  • uncontrolled bleeding in the mouth

If you are experiencing urgent symptoms like these, please don’t hesitate to call our office at 563-556-2711. However, if you are currently ill with a fever, cough, shortness of breath, respiratory illness, or similar flu-like symptoms, we will likely delay care and try to manage the problem another way. If you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 or traveled to a Level 3 area with COVID-19, we may`also need to delay care. We are offering tele-dentistry appointments when indicated. If you do come for an emergency appointment, we will be using extra precaution with added measures to keep everyone safe. Adults will be asked to come into the office on their own, to limit additional people in the waiting room.

For all non-emergency correspondence, you can text us at 563-556-2711
, email us at [email protected], or use our Contact Form. We will be checking the text messages, emails, and regular mail every 2-3 days, and we will respond accordingly.

Our team will be monitoring this ongoing pandemic and following recommendations when it is appropriate for us to return our normal business hours. Thank you for your understanding. All of us at Exceptional Dentistry look forward to the day we are back in the office serving our patients.

Until then, stay home, stay healthy…and keep brushing and flossing! 🙂
